Sharon Siamon


	Sharon Siamon (1942 - 2015) Canadian author. Fairly prolific writer of a number of teen pony adventure series. She also writes non-pony books, most notably the 'Sleepover' series. Her father was also a writer and she took after him from an early age by writing lots of stories of her own, although didn't become published until later on in life. Has also loved horses from childhood, although she still does not own one! Sharon has a deep respect for the natural world and its creatures and a dislike for those who try and destroy it. She says that most of her villains are such people: hunters, miners and developers, whilst her heroines battle against them and try to preserve the natural state. Her pony books were originally published in Canada by Walrus Books, an imprint of Whitecap Books. Some titles were also published in the USA by the Pony Club/Stabenfeldt publishing enterprise, although they did not publish any of her Mustang Mountain series. Some have also been recently reprinted in the UK. Most of her books are in print at the moment and can be found on Amazon and other internet bookshops. Sadly this talented lady passed away in 2015.


	Saddle Island Series: Set on the beautiful wild Nova Scotia coast where Kelsie has a penchant for rescuing horses! Her plan is to swim him across the sea to a deserted island. But on the way there a storm puts them in danger... 2) SADDLE ISLAND - SECRETS IN THE SAND (WALRUS BOOKS PB [CANADA] 2006) Also published by Stabenfeldt/Pony Club in the USA in 2007 Reprinted in paperback by Walrus Books SUMMARY: Kelsie and brother Andy are trying to make money to look after more rescued horses. Can the rich stranger with all his promises of money and equipment help them? Or will Andy's idea of finding lost treasure solve the problem? 3) SADDLE ISLAND - RACE TO THE RESCUE (WALRUS BOOKS PB [CANADA] 2007) Also published in hardback by Stabenfeldt/Pony Club in the USA in 2007 and by Harper Collins USA SUMMARY: Kelsie and Andy are hoping that their dad will get a job in Dark Cove so they can stay there permantly. Kelsie rescues a beautiful racehorse called Diamond but this starts a chain of events that could threaten to change Saddle Island forever... 	Wild Horse Creek Series: Set in the USA, with a pair of Canadian twins visiting their grandparents' ranch on Arizona. Not 100% sure about the publishing history of these books. Any confirmation will be appreciated! 1) THE MYSTERY STALLION (WALRUS BOOKS [CANADA] 2008) Reprinted by Stabenfeldt/Pony Club in the USA in 2009 SUMMARY: Set in Arizona, USA. Twins, Liv and Sophie couldn't be more different, but they must work together to solve the mystery of the wild stallion and save their grandparent's herd of Spanish Barb horses. 2) COYOTE CANYON (WALRUS BOOKS [CANADA] 2009?) Reprinted by Stabenfeldt/Pony Club in the USA in 2009 SUMMARY: A colt goes missing from the ranch. The twins enlist a good looking young tracker called Shane to help them, but whilst out searching, the twins discover a shocking secret... 3) HEARTBREAK HILLS (WALRUS BOOKS [CANADA] 2009) SUMMARY: The twins both fall for the gorgeous young cowboy Shane which puts their friendship at risk and threatens to spoil the holidays. But when Shane is in danger they must put aside their jealous rivalry to help him. 4) DESERT RESCUE (WALRUS BOOKS [CANADA] 2010) SUMMARY: The twins are looking forward to their older brother Mark joining them at the ranch but when he arrives he is bad-tempered and moody and refuses to even ride! Can a trip to the desert to rescue the stallion mystery bring him back to his old self? 5) RUNAWAY DREAMS (STARBURST [CANADA] 2012) SUMMARY: When a greedy developer threatens the ranch, an old movie cowboy may provide a solution. 6) MYSTERY RETURNS (STARBURST [CANADA] 2012) SUMMARY: The mysterious stallion Mystery makes a reappearance. Collector's Info: Published in Canada in paperback, the first 3 were also published as small hardbacks by Stabenfeldt. Easy to find in the USA. Books 1 and 3 are also fairly easy to find in the UK on Amazon, although book 2 appears to be only available in America/Canada at the moment. All the books are still in print.


	Mustang Mountain Series: Long-running teen horsy adventure series set in the Rocky Mountains of the USA. The stories revolve around three very different horse loving girls and often have a 'wilderness' theme. 1) SKY HORSE (WALRUS BOOKS [CANADA] 2001) (1st UK edition EGMONT 2009) Reprinted in paperback by original publisher. Published in the UK in paperback by Egmont in 2009. SUMMARY: Even the prospect of putting up with the snooty Alison isn't enough to put off Meg when she has a chance to spend a holiday with Alison and her cousin Becky at Mustang Mountain Ranch, high up in the Rockies. For Meg is horse-mad but horse-less and staying on a ranch with horses galore is a dream come true for her. Becky is not so happy after being dumped in a wilderness she does not like. But when the girls are caught in a snowstorm they have to work together to rescue a horse and a good looking adventurer from his crashed plane - not to mention eluding a giant grizzly bear! SUMMARY: Whilst out searching for two ponies which have got loose when Alison carelessly left open a gate, the friends are trapped by a wild fire - until a mysterious mustang stallion appears and saves them. 3) NIGHT HORSE (WALRUS BOOKS [CANADA] 2002) (1st UK edition EGMONT 2009) Reprinted in paperback by original publisher. Published in the UK in paperback by Egmont in 2009. SUMMARY: The girls spend an eventful night in the mountains trying to save both a pregnant mare and a threatened stallion. Alison even discovers she has a talent for it! But an accident threatens the girls chances in the upcoming rodeo. Published in the UK in paperback by Egmont in 2010. SUMMARY: The girls are back on holiday at Mustang Mountain Ranch, along with their friend Thomas. But Alison causes her usual trouble by sending Thomas off on a wild goose chase after a mysterious ghost horse. It was meant to be a joke, but when Thomas fails to return the girls begin to wonder if he may have fallen victim to the mysterious curse of the ghost horse after all! 7) FREE HORSE (WALRUS BOOKS [CANADA] 2004) Reprinted in paperback by original publisher. SUMMARY: When Ruby, the owner of a nearby ranch falls ill, Meg and Thomas agree to help look after both the horses and Ruby's ten year old step-son Tyler. But Tyler is a troublesome boy and lets out the horses. Whilst searching for the horses, Thomas discovers a plot to capture and sell wild horses - could it be connected to Tyler's older brother and his friends? 8) SWIFT HORSE (WALRUS BOOKS [CANADA] 2005) Reprinted in paperback by original publisher. SUMMARY: Alison has her sights set on a new dream horse, but when her mother vetoes the idea of another horse and the horse's owner refuses to sell Skipper, Alison takes matters into her own hands - with disastrous results... 9) DARK HORSE (WALRUS BOOKS [CANADA] 2005) Reprinted in paperback by original publisher. SUMMARY: Becky is taking part in a tough 50 mile endurance race with her boyfriend Rob. But when Rob starts showing too much interest in a glamourous blonde competitor, Becky's jealousy threatens to ruin her chances. 10) STONE HORSE (WALRUS BOOKS [CANADA] 2006) Reprinted in paperback by original publisher. SUMMARY: When the Government threatens to close down Mustang Mountain Ranch, it seems the only way to keep it open is to convert it into a kid;s horse camp. As far as I know these were all paperback editions. I don't think any of these were reprinted in hardback by Stabenfeldt like the author's Saddle Island and Wild Horse Creek series - if you know differently please let me know. The first 6 in the series were also reprinted in the UK by Egmont, although I am uncertain whether they aim to publish the rest of the series. All in print in the USA at the moment of this update (Feb 2013), although only odd titles are in print in the UK. Used copies of the books are easy to find in Canada, the USA and the UK, possibly harder elsewhere.


	Other Horse & Pony Books: These three pony stories are part of longer non-pony series - The Blue Kite series A HORSE FOR JOSIE MOON (LORIMER [CANADA] 1989) Part of the 'Blue Kite' adventure series. Then one day she finds some secret horses in the bush nearby. But when they are in danger she knows she can't keep them secret any longer and must trust her friend Kiff to help. GALLOP FOR GOLD (LORIMER [CANADA] 1992) Part of the 'Blue Kite' adventure series. For information on the full series click here SUMMARY: Kiff is not looking forward to having to spend another summer with the hopeless and useless boy Remington. But when Remington arrives to stay he has with him a beautiful Icelandic horse! THE CAMP FIRE SLEEPOVER (HODDER [UK] 1998) Reprinted by Stabenfeldt/Pony Club Part of the 'Sleepover' ghost series. This time, as they gather round the camp-fire, Charlie tells them a story about a ghostly horse... Collector's Info: The Camp Fire Sleepover is quite easy to find in the UK as it was published here. A Horse for Josie Moon is harder to find in the UK than the author's series books but can still be tracked down without too much trouble. Gallop for Gold is a different matter and it seems very hard to find, not only here but in the USA.
